History:
When the Maurya dynasty founded Chittorgarh in the seventh century, it was known as Chitrakut at first. But it became well-known when the Rajput kings ruled, especially the Mewar Sisodia family.
Numerous conflicts and sieges occurred at the fort, each of which profoundly altered its past. Among the most famous of them is the Alauddin Khilji siege in 1303, which sadly culminated in the collective self-immolation (Jauhar) of Rajput women under the leadership of Rani Padmini.
Construction: Over the years, a number of monarchs, notably the Mauryas, the Guhilas, and subsequently the Sisodias, are credited with building Chittorgarh.
