The history of Orchha begins when Rudra Pratap Singh, a Bundela Rajput lord, founded the town in the sixteenth century. The Bundela dynasty brought prosperity to the town, especially under Raja Bir Singh Deo I’s tenure.

Orchha was the seat of the Bundela monarchy until the eighteenth century, when it was abandoned. Orchha’s architectural legacy endures, providing a window into its illustrious history despite its abandonment.
