History and Construction: The first wooden construction of the Mysore Palace dates back to the 14th century and was constructed by the Wadiyar dynasty’s founder, Yaduraya Wadiyar. It was expanded and renovated over the ages by various monarchs, resulting in the majestic structure that survives to this day.

But Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV, who ordered the palace’s renovation in 1897 after a disastrous fire destroyed the original building, is largely responsible for the present palace’s opulence. Leading the design team was the renowned British architect Henry Irwin, who combined Rajput, Hindu, Indo-Saracenic, and Gothic elements to produce an architectural marvel of grandeur.
